Two mechanisms containing Langmuir-Hinshelwood and Mars-van Krevelen mechanism were suggested to describe the benzene catalytic oxidation over Pt/Al2O3 catalyst [16, 17]. However, there were few studies in the mechanisms of benzene catalytic oxidation over nanometal oxides supported gold catalysts. In this work, various nanometal oxide supported colloidal gold catalysts with self-designed equipment for benzene catalytic oxidation were investigated. The Au/ZnO catalyst was characterized by BET, XRD and TEM and the gaseous products by using FTIR and GC-MS.

It can be seen that the benzene conversion efficiency increased with the 24 Advance in Ecological Environment Functional Materials and Ion Industry increasing of Au loading during the whole temperature course. While, further increasing the Au loading from 2% to 4% did not affect the benzene conversion obviously. Therefore, the optimal Au loading was 2% for the following researches.
